The Nam Ha River forms the heart of the Nam Ha Protected Area and represents one of the most untouched waterways in Laos. This trips takes you through the heart of the Nam Ha NPA. If you want to see jungle, this is the trip for you. You will be paddling exciting but manageable 2 to 3 grade rapids. During low water the river becomes quite rocky making kayaking difficult.

The day of paddling takes you through the thick, in parts old–growth forest of the Nam Ha NPA. A picnic lunch and a refreshing swim mark mid–day. After reaching the Lanten village of Ban Nam Goy, a traditional Lao dinner is prepared and you spend the night in a Lanten style house. This scenic village with its thatched roofs and houses with earthen floors looks much like would have in the 18th century, when the Lanten first settled here. (L, D)

The next day, the river features a number of swift rapids before arriving at the confluence of the Nam Ha and Nam Tha Rivers. Monkeys are often heard and sometimes seen on this stretch of river. But you’ll have to be quiet so you don’t scare them off. Reaching the Namtha River turn down stream continue past Khmu villages to the pick–up point for the return to Luang Namtha. This is where a pick–up awaits the group for the return to Luang Namtha.(B, L)
