LUANG NAMTHA - BAN NAM GOY - LUANG NAMTHA :2D/1N

The first day of trekking takes you through 2 Lanten Villages and a Khmu Village. Ban Nalan Tai, a Khmu village, and Ban Nam Goy, a Lanten village, can only be accessed by foot or by boat. This trail climbs a ridge bordering the Nam Ha River and goes through forested areas bordering the Nam Ha Protected Area. Overnight in the village lodge of Ban Nam Goy. On this trip you will learn about the upland agricultural practices, the uses of the forest and you’ll enjoy the hospitality and food of the Lanten. The first day is a day of trekking through forest and the second you spend kayaking down the lower part of the Nam Ha River through the Nam Ha National Protected Area. You will be paddling exciting but manageable 2 to 3 grade rapids. During low water the river becomes quite rocky making kayaking difficult. The return on mountain bikes will be along a rough road along the Namtha River with views of the protected area.

DAY 01: LUANG NAMTHA - BAN NAM GOY

The trek starts in the village of Ban Namleu, a Lanten village. The trail ascends from Ban Nam Leu to the ridgeline. Along the trail you will pass through forest in various stages of regeneration as well as some upland fields. You will meet local villagers along the trail coming from or going to market. Descend from the ridge down to the village of Ban Nalan Tail on the banks of the Nam Ha. Walk around the village and rest awhile before continuing on to Ban Nam Goy. The villagers of Ban Nam Goy will be your hosts for the night. Your village host will prepare you evening meal and join for a chat before retiring in the village lodge of the night. (L, D)

DAY 02 : BAN NAM GOY - LUANG NAMTHA

The next day, the river features a number of swift rapids before arriving at the confluence of the Nam Ha and Nam Tha Rivers. Monkeys are often heard and sometimes seen on this stretch of river. But you’ll have to be quiet so you don’t scare them off. Upon reaching the Namtha River turn down stream for a bit until you meet the support vehicle.
